Text Box: What are Field Initiatives?
Field Initiatives are problem-solving activities that groups of participants do together (though not very 'physical', the activities often take place in a large field since many require a significant amount of space.) The activities usually focus on developing skills such as: teambuilding, leadership, self-esteem, good communication, patience, etc. The activities are designed to give participants a "hands-on" (experiential) opportunity to develop real-life skills in a fun, non-competitive atmosphere. A field initiative can be anything from a quick cooperative tag game to a multi-day obstacle course style set of tasks. Field initiatives should begin with a list of rules and boundaries and end with a period of reflection and processing in order to help transfer whatever lessons are learned back to the participants' real lives.

What is a Write-Up?                                                                                                                            A write-up is the format we use to list the "how-to" of an activity. Usually the write-up has the following information:
Title
Skills Developed
Set-Up
Time Required
Rules
Debrief Information
Other Information & Hints
Most of the above write-ups were written with the assistance of materials from Project Adventure and/or the Browne Center for Innovative Learning. Please do not reproduce.
